I thought you couldn't have two dreadnaughts in a fleet?

Nice rendering though.

p.s. you page loads really slow.  There's something wrong on this particular page, as it doesn't happen on other deviant art pages.

Thanks. That's the way I was asked to do it as it was a commision.

Yeah, it's because it is a really large picture. If you download it you'll see all the details.

This looks spectacular!

How many polys are they? Could you perhaps show a wireframe? :3

Thanks.

All models are low to medium-poly the whole scene has around 230k triangles.

For wires see here: [link]

Wow! I have to commend you for this wonderful image. I love the ship designs in the Star Fleet Battles universe, and you really do them justice. Whoever commissioned this is a lucky fellow.

Out of curiosity, what programs did you use to create the image? How did you model the ships and nebula? It's really impressive!

Skecthup for modelling, Simlab Composer for rendering, the nebula is just a picture and the lighting is a Hdri picture of the Milky Way.

And I used the schematics from here [link]

Ah okay, in that case I'll tell you right now that SFB (Star Fleet Battles) is damn hard to learn. It doesn't help if you get someone who isn't worried about actually trying to teach you.

I can imagine it's very complicated with lots of stats and rules, must be very fun once you've learned it though.

Yeah it's fairly complicated. Unfortunately I never did get to the point where I felt like I learned it, mainly because the people who already knew it wanted someone easy to shoot up.

Anyway here are the ship sheets, the easy versions at least [link]

When did the MacArthur get a third engine? I have one of the first releases of the miniature and it only had the two side warp nacelles. But the picture overall looks great.

I don't know, I just used this blueprint: [link]

But I see that the Napoleon has only 2 nacelles and is virtually Identical to the Mac. [link]
